Marla is featured in The Oklahoman May 19, 2018 and shares her journey with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Professional Women in Building (PWB) and being awarded the 2017 National Member of the Year.
Through her work and her company, The Green Home Coach, she shares her focus “to empower people, especially women, in their homes and families by sharing how green and sustainability offers a safer, healthier and more comfortable home.”
Marla’s green journey began several years ago through the research surrounding her daughter’s allergic reaction. She discovered the chemical overload found in many homes today, which eventually led her to work as a consultant with builders, remodelers and homeowners and others in creating healthy, sustainable living spaces.
“I have three passions: women, green and home,” she said. “I get all three through my work to some degree, and then I get women and home space through PWB. Living out her passions, today, Marla serves as the current president of the PWB Council of Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association, as well as owner and president of The Green Home Coach.
Marla continues to educate others through her Green Gab podcast and book, “Living Green Effortlessly: Simple Choices for a Better Home,” which won an Independent Book Publishers Association Benjamin Franklin Award in 2017.
Occupying a sweet spot in her world, PWB (Professional Women Builders) is gearing up for its first signature project, Build My Future, set for the spring of 2019. The one-day career fair is designed to show students the many careers available in and around the building industry.
Through the PWB, Marla enjoys the sisterhood of women and being one of the many female voices in today’s building industry.
