Have You Heard Of The Nest?

Nest Learning Thermostat

I don’t usually make it a habit to talk about products because I like to remain a third-party and neutral. But there’s a new product that I installed in my home and I really want to share my experience with. It is the Nest Learning Thermostat. The only reason I call out this specific brand it’s because this is the only one I have seen on the market like this. It is very unique. The Nest was designed by one of the past Apple designers. It is very elegant and very simplistic. It’s very simple to use, I should say, but not simplistic in its design.

Why The Nest Is Unique

Nest On Your Smart Phone

The Nest app on a smartphone.

What’s really cool about it is that it is a learning thermostat. This thermostat actually learns from the settings that you adjusted to over time and remembers them. It really just does this for you. It can also be controlled completely from your smart phone which I find it great because so many times I don’t remember if I adjusted the temperature or if I’ve been out-of-town for a few days and I want to make sure that it’s not freezing cold when I get back. I can simply look at it at on my smart phone and because it is connected through Wi-Fi, I can simply adjust the temperature.

It even reads the humidity levels in the house and since I also have a humidifier, it works beautifully too. It does not control the humidifier yet, but have a feeling it will in the future.

What makes this such a cool idea is that everybody that we talked to, especially during winter, say; can you teach me how to use my programmable thermostat? And these programmable thermostats are very user-friendly. We have a lot of people who just say “forget it” and won’t bother to use them even if they understand it could offer them significant utilities savings from their heating and cooling. It’s just challenging and the Nest gets rid of those challenges. The Nest makes it super easy to adjust the heating and cooling in your home so that you could take advantage of the energy savings that are available.

If you haven’t checked this out, I will tell you the Nest system is not cheap. They’re much more expensive than a traditional programmable thermostat. However, I figure that I’m going to pay for an energy savings alone in just a few years. So I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you about my experience with something new and really cool and have an opportunity to save some money with it. Everybody that comes in my home, especially service people, take a look at it, think that’s really cool and want to hear about it.

To learn more about The Nest, take a look at their website which is full of information about how to use it, and the benefits it can provide.

I would be eager to hear your experiences and thoughts on the Nest in the comments section below.

First of all I want to say excellent blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if
you do not mind. I was curious to know how you center
yourself and clear your mind prior to writing.
I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting
my ideas out. I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like
the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be wasted simply just trying to figure
out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Thank you!

Funny that you should ask about how I clear my mind to write. Honestly, I
don’t. I just start writing. Sometimes I will even dictate to my phone and
email it to myself as a very rough draft. It at least gives me a starting
point. I find I have the best success with pouring my “writing” out is when
I really have something to say about the topic and want to share my story or
my point of view. Good luck.
