2017 New Year Happenings

OMG! The fulfillment of a life goal is here and it is thrilling. My book Living Green Effortlessly – Simple Choices for a Better Home is available now and officially launches next week at the Builders Show. While writing and publishing a book is a life dream come true, it definitely had its ups and downs and took much longer than I’d anticipated. A huge thank you to Liz, Patricia and Sherrye at Builder Books for getting this to happen.

IBS Happens Next Week

Every year I get the honor of participating in the International Builders Show (IBS), the annual conference and expo of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). It has teamed up with the annual Kitchen and Bath Show (KBIS) so there are a lot of people in town for the big events. This year, the Builders Show returns to Orlando FL after being in Las Vegas for the last 4 years. The week starts with NAHB business meetings – the councils and committees that accomplish much of the work. The conference and expo start Tuesday Jan 10th.

Attendees will have over 1400 suppliers in the expo, over 160 education sessions to choose from and dozens of talks, roundtables and networking opportunities. All registrants may also tour one or both of the homes built for the show – The New American Home and the first remodeled home, The New American Remodeled Home. I will report back with pictures and thoughts.

As a NAHB Professional Women in Building (PWB) Trustee, I also have the honor of participating in business meetings and events in the NAHB Professional Women in Building Headquarters where there will be lots happening and all are welcome. It is a great spot to sit a bit, grab a cup of coffee or catch up on the week’s events.

We will also be speaking in 3 of the IBS Centrals – niche-specific rooms with their own programs. The events are also on the Green Home Coach Facebook page.
Jo Ann Kostik of Jo Ann Kostik Interior Designer LLC in New Orleans and I will be speaking in the Remodelers Central Tuesday January 10 at 9:45am – Universal Homes for Individual Needs: The Intersection between Green and Accessibility in Homes

Tony Pratte of The Sound Room in St. Louis and I will be speaking twice on Thursday January 12. In the 55+ Central at 8am Thursday – Greening Your Company’s Image: Walking the Talk.  In the Design Studio at 12:45pm Thursday – Green Dream Home Project – Your Must-Haves, Nice to Haves, & the Rest.

It is an action-packed week and always great to reconnect with colleagues from across the country. I usually come back brimming with people to follow up with, new ideas and projects. It is a great start to the year.
